Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta - Amazing

What do you want from me? he asks. What I want from every person in my life, I want to tell him. More.

Abandoned by her mother on Jellicoe Road when she was eleven, Taylor Markham, now seventeen, is finally being confronted with her past. But as the reluctant leader of her boarding school dorm, there isnt a lot of time for introspection. And while Hannah, the closest adult Taylor has to family, has disappeared, Jonah Griggs is back in town, moody stares and all.

In this absorbing story by Melina Marchetta, nothing is as it seems and every clue leads to more questions as Taylor tries to work out the connection between her mother dumping her, Hannah finding her then and her sudden departure now, a mysterious stranger who once whispered something in her ear, a boy in her dreams, five kids who lived on Jellicoe Road eighteen years ago, and the maddening and magnetic Jonah Griggs, who knows her better than she thinks he does. If Taylor can put together the pieces of her past, she might just be able to change her future.

Amazing
There are only two book Ive ever read that have made me cry. One of them was Jellicoe Road. This book is heartbreaking, but worth it.

Its a story about love, which is incredibly different than a love story. Jellicoe Road mixes the stories of a handful of teenagers and their lives on the Jellicoe Road, located in the Australian bush and home to a surprisingly serious game of territory wars. While Jellicoe Road is filled to the brim with characters, it focuses mostly on the tragic five and Taylor Markham, our narrator, who is not only drawn to the fives stories and lives, but connected to each and every one of them in every way. The love in the story comes from friendship rather than romance, though theres that, too. And love for the heaven that is Jellicoe Road, where everything started.

The story comes together in bits and pieces, and with the aid of Hannahs poignant manuscript. The end is thoroughly satisfying, as is the begging and every word in between. A little slow to get into, this book does reward those readers who hang on.

Jellicoe Road is one of the best books I have ever read. Dont believe me? Try it.
