You Read to Me, Ill Read to You: Very Short Mother Goose Tales to Read Together by Mary Ann Hoberman - reading magic

oin the fun as 17 familiar nursery rhyme characters take starring roles in this latest addition to the New York Times bestselling series You Read to Me, Ill Read to You. Designed with budding readers in mind, each of the tales is set in three columns with color-coded type as a script for two voices to read separately and together. Whether its Humpty Dumpty negotiating with a doctor to fix his cracked shell, Little Miss Muffet inviting the spider to share her curds and whey, or Old King Cole enjoying a feline fiddle recital, these tales with a twist will delight and amuse young readers.

We have loved this book. It is a turn-taking read-aloud book, with lovely rhyme and rhythm to the text. There are plenty of new words to sound out, but plenty of easy words for your new reader to feel mastery.

The illustrations are super -- they are by Michael Emberly, and my first guess would be this is Ed's son? They are adorable.

It's fun for parents to read with children, it is fun for older siblings to read with younger siblings, and in my opinion, it builds family cohesion, problem solving, turn taking, verbal rhythms, and humor.
