Magyk (Septimus Heap, Book 1) by Angie Sage - So fun and exciting is Septimus Heap!

The seventh son of the seventh son, aptly named Septimus Heap, is stolen the night he is born by a midwife who pronounces him dead. That same night, the babys father, Silas Heap, comes across a bundle in the snow containing a new born girl with violet eyes. The Heaps take this helpless newborn into their home, name her Jenna, and raise her as their own. But who is this myster ious baby girl, and what really happened to their beloved son Septimus?

The first book in this enthralling new series by Angie Sage leads readers on a fantastic journey filled with quirky characters and magykal charms, potions, and spells. magyk is an original story of lost and rediscovered identities, rich with humor and heart.

So fun and exciting is Septimus Heap!
This book is like a medieval Harry potter except more light-hearted and cheerful.

One night as Silas Heap is returning home to see his new born son, a midwife rushes out with a bundle and screaming that Silas' son is dead. Silas' wife Sarah Heap is distraught as her would-be seventh son of a seventh son, Septimus, is carried away. Bear in mind that a seventh son of a seventh son is very, very special. Little does she know that Septimus is actually alive. Earlier that day, on his walk home, Silas found a baby girl with deep violet eyes bundled up and abandoned. He takes her home to Sarah, decides to raise her as their own daughter, and names her Jenna. Ten years later the ExtraOrdinary Wizard Marcia Overstrand shows up on the Heap's doorstep and reveals that Jenna is the Princess of the Castle, the rightful heir to the throne, for the Queen was murdered ten years ago. This sets off numerous events as Jenna, Nicko, Marcia, and a mysterious boy from the young army set off toward the marshes to find answers. Because a seventh son of a seventh son is very, very, special.

My favorite character is Aunt Zelda because she is sweet, quirky, and stubborn, and for many other reasons. I also like Septimus.

A delightful read, but not that deep and emotional. Still, it is a charming book, full of mystery and fun I strongly recommend this tale and series opener.
